FIELD FELLOWSHIP
Minnesota DNR, Joe Rose '81 Government Service Fellowship
Spending summer 2026 in the EWR at the Minnesota DNR, working jointly with the SNA, CMRR, and NGW units in St. Paul. Bird surveying with the MBS, Osprey banding, bird surveys at AHATS, and checking kestrel nest boxes for a project on the American Kestrel, a species of greatest conservation need here. Also helping track the causes of loon mortality in the state, including the link between lead fishing tackle and loon deaths, and I got to represent the NGW at a Minnesota Loons FC game spreading loon advocacy. On the data side: a database of Minnesota's protected species for MBS staff, and one covering the state's Scientific and Natural Areas.
